A Ray Tracing Method for Illumination Calculation in Diffuse - Specular Scenes
نویسنده
چکیده
Several ways of improving the realism of the results of traditional ray tracing are presented. The essential physical quantities of spectral radiant power and spectral radiance and their use in lighting calculations are discussed. Global illwnination terms are derived by employing illwnination ray tracing for calculation of quickly changing indirect lighting components, and radiosity ray tracing for slowly changing indirect lighting components. Direct lighting is calculated during the viewing phase allowing the use of bump maps. Finally, a method is introduced that reduces the total number of shadow rays to no more than the total number of viewing rays for a given picture.

A Survey of Radiosity and Ray-tracing Methods in Global Illumination
This paper surveys Radiosity and Ray-tracing methods used in global illumination. Global illumination is based on light transport mechanism in real world. The light transport mechanism can be expressed in terms of BRDF of each element, and the most common and practical way is dividing the BRDF into specular and diffuse component. Mathematically Global illumination is a problem of solving numeri...

متن کاملFaster Photon Map Global Illumination
The photon map method is an extension of ray tracing that makes it able to efficiently compute caustics and soft indirect illumination on surfaces and in participating media. This paper describes a method to further speed up the computation of soft indirect illumination (diffuse-diffuse light transport such as color bleeding) on surfaces. The speedup is based on the observation that the many lo...
متن کاملObscurances in general environments
Obscurances is a powerful, simple and robust technique to simulate global illumination of a scene with much lower cost than other global illumination techniques like radiosity or path tracing. On the one hand, this technique has been used to compute the indirect lighting of diffuse scenes in videogames using lightmaps. In this context, it has been even proven useful to recompute in real time th...
متن کاملFast Global Illumination Including Specular Effects
Rapidly simulating global illumination, including diffuse and glossy light transport is a very difficult problem. Finite element or radiosity approaches can achieve interactive simulations for some classes of diffuse-only scenes, but more general methods are currently too slow and too noisy for interactive use. We present a new method which seamlessly integrates particle tracing (for nondiffuse...
